HOME
The series titled 'Home' showcases the morning of a childish individual within typical British settings. It offers a glimpse into how she attempts to bridge the gap between her foreign home and her inner world. The contrast between adult existence and childish desires is portrayed in the pictures, thematizing the conflict between alienation and a sense of home.
"I used to call my mom often when I wanted to go home, but when she picked up the phone, I realized I couldn't tell her this now. When you realize as a young adult that you have to create your own home in a foreign place, it often causes an internal struggle to figure out how to do it. What routines to establish, how to dress your surroundings, or even just deciding what to eat today. These questions aren't specific to living abroad, but the awareness that I can't just pop over to my mom's on Sunday to eat her cooking is frightening. It's difficult to cope at times. I've always referred to myself as a very independent person, unafraid of moving abroad. But in such a shift, I felt like a little girl again, lost in a home without a home. Somehow, I tried to visualize this through my images."
Growing up, becoming an adult is never simple, especially when this process begins in a foreign country. Separation anxiety, homesickness, loneliness - these are all things one must grapple with when becoming independent. New impulses and experiences often raise existential questions. Thus, the images don't seek solutions to these problems; they simply attempt to alleviate the feelings associated with them.
